I enjoy tasks that require creativity and problem solving. Food science allows me to utilize these skills and combine my passion for chemistry with my love of food. I can’t imagine a better field for me! I enjoy cooking and baking even more now that I understand how the preparation steps affect the finished product. I am really looking forward to putting my food science knowledge to use in an industry setting this summer.
In my spare time I bake and decorate cakes. I like challenges when it comes to designing cakes. My first non-traditional cake was shaped and decorated like the Death Star from “Star Wars” after a friend jokingly mentioned that’s what he wanted for his birthday. Since then I’ve made a cake with the design of a Chinese take-out box on the sides and a fortune cookie on top, a cake shaped like a basket of flowers, and a cake wrapped like a present among others.
